Weekly eats!

Hi there!

So, sometimes I get questions about what I eat or how I can even eat as much as I do!

Well, for starters, my muscles are HUNGRY! And, once I get back to running, I’m might even need to ADD a little. I’ll be RUNGRY. *tee hee*

It’s weird – some of the people I work with at my day job have these huge misconceptions about my diet. Some think I’m vegan (make vegan muffins ONCE for a colleague who actually IS vegan and suddenly, they’re glaring at me when I’m heating up chicken or meat sauce or whatever in the kitchen), others think I’m only organic (which is not too far off base but I’m not quite there yet), and some think I never eat sweets or junk food. Um, hello, have you even MET me?

Anyway, I decided it might be a good idea to do a weekly eats post for a couple of reasons: one – to give you an idea of what I really eat outside of all those healthy recipes I like to create and/or share; two – to show you that I actually do eat what I’ve prepped on Sundays; and three– to kinda keep track of what I’m doing so maybe I can figure out what’s been bugging my tummy lately.

It’s not an allergy, I’m fairly certain. There’s just something with my diet that, well, makes my tummy a little disagreeable at times. Or mostly every day. I will spare you the gory details. You’re welcome. J Back when I was running, I attributed it to the dreaded “runner’s tummy.” But, um, yeah, haven’t been doing that running thing for like 9 weeks now so you think that would have righted itself. It hasn’t. *sigh*

Additionally, I don’t have a gall bladder so I have to be really careful about the fat I consume – both good and bad. I could literally eat nut butters all day long but that’s not really a good thing for me to do. No matter how much I want to. Makes my tummy angry in a whole different way. Ugh. So, I have to be smart and not eat too much nut butter and avocado on the same day. Where’s the fun in that? Gah! Separately, in my own private journal, I’m keeping track of how my tummy reacts to the foods I’ve eaten. Again, you’re welcome.  🙂

Monday – 2 egg white omelet with mozzarella cheese, 2 Al Fresco maple apple chicken sausages, 1 sliced tomato (from the Farmer’s Market!), 2 pieces bakery Brioche toast with grass-fed butter and low-sugar grape jam and orange juice

Tuesday – oatmeal with cinnamon, honey, chia seeds, almond butter, banana and blueberries & orange juice

Wednesday – 2 egg white omelet with mozzarella cheese, 2 maple apple chicken sausages, 1 sliced tomato, 2 pieces bakery Brioche toast with avocado mash (sorta) and orange juice

Thursday – same as Tuesday – oatmeal with cinnamon, honey, chia seeds, almond butter, banana and blueberries & orange juice

Friday – see Tuesday and Thursday. Nope, not boring at all.

Morning snacks:

Monday – Banana oatmeal bread, pecan butter, strawberries

Tuesday – Chobani nonfat plain Greek yogurt with ¾ cup Kashi Toasted Berry Crumble and strawberries

Wednesday – Banana oatmeal bread, almond butter, banana

Thursday – Chobani nonfat plain Greek yogurt with ¼ cup Love Crunch granola. Totally BUMMED that I forgot my strawberries!!

Tuesday – Ginormous salad with roast chicken, ½ cup black beans, mini bell peppers, sliced cucumber, and feta cheese.

Wednesday – roasted sweet potato topped with roast chicken and ½ cup black beans, red bell pepper, and sliced cucumbers and a Clementine for dessert

Thursday – sandwich – roast chicken on Bakery Brioche bread slathered with hummus and topped with mozzarella cheese, field greens, farmer’s market tomato and cucumber, some baby bell peppers, Boulder Canyon Avocado Oil kettle cooked chips, and a clementine for dessert. 🙂

Friday – sandwich – pretty much the same as yesterday except the bread is homemade whole wheat (thank you bread machine!), red bell pepper strips, blue corn tortilla chips and Wholly Guacamole.

PM snacks:

Monday – Laughing Cow cheese, pretzel chips, seedless red grapes

Tuesday – Bacon jerky and 2 Clementines

Wednesday – Bacon jerky and red seedless grapes

Pre-CrossFit eats

Monday – Think Thin Brownie Crunch High Protein Bar

Tuesday – GoMacro Protein Paradise cashew caramel bar

Wednesday – GoMacro Protein Purity sunflower butter + chocolate bar

Thursday – no CrossFit today so no pre-CrossFit eats

Friday – Think Thin Brownie Crunch High Protein Bar

Tuesday – a bowl of Quaker Oatmeal Squares cereal with some blueberries. #dontjudgeme

Wednesday – 2 slices Pizza Hut ham and pineapple pizza (hey, it was waiting for me when I got home!), a piece of pumpkin pie, and a bourbon. Yes, a bourbon.

Thursday – 2 taco boats: Ortega Fiesta Flats taco shells, black beans, farmer’s market ground beef with taco seasoning, cheddar cheese, field greens, fresh farmer’s market tomato, and sliced avocado. Green beans on the side. Om nom nom!

Friday – Gilbert’s “The Froman” beef frank with spicy mustard and sweet relish and Maple Bacon kettle chips

The weekend kinda got away from me what with our social life and food prep and all so I didn’t document anything. Next week, I promise!!

Although, I’m definitely not as strict and focused on the weekends.

Talk to me: Do you tend to eat the same things every day? What do you like to eat after a workout?

My review of Frigo® Cheese Heads® Light Brand Cheese

Hello, hello!!

Happy Monday, my friends!

So, I was recently contacted by Saputo Cheese USA Inc. with an opportunity to try their new Frigo® Cheese Heads® Light Brand Cheese and, since I love cheese, it totally seemed like a no-brainer!

big bang theory

We can go through some serious cheese sticks in our house, that’s for sure. They are perfect portable snacks any time of the day or additions to a healthy lunch.

light cheese

Saputo Cheese USA Inc. sent me some coupons to purchase their product and, for agreeing to try and review the cheese sticks, they also sent along this totally awesome blender bottle and these really cool Blender Bottle GoStak™ containers. Um, seriously, where have THOSE been all my life?!?!?!

So, armed with coupon, off to the grocery store I went!

Now, I definitely should add that they sent me a KILLER coupon! It was for $6 off a package!! Um, the only problem was, my grocery stores don’t carry $6 packages of cheese sticks!  The closest I could get was $5.29 (um, still a great deal!). 😦  Oh well. I grabbed a small package and went on my merry way.

Hey, it’s cheese, after all. I still wanted to eat it even if I couldn’t use the coupon!

Let me tell you something. I am in LOVE with these cheese sticks. Seriously.

And, they’re only 50 calories a stick!

Um, hello?! A light, healthy snack with only 50 calories that also boasts 7 grams of belly-filling protein?

My momma didn’t raise no fool.

(I may have died a little there from my poor grammar choices in that sentence.)

And, if you’re not the biggest mozzarella fan, they have other options!

Pepper Jack!!!!

Pepper Jack!!!!

I’m definitely going back to the store and grabbing the pepper jack kind. Like, probably on my way home today. Because, you know, you can never have too many cheese sticks.

Pfft. Who am I kidding? I have to stop because I plowed through that whole bag already and I need to restock. I’ll probably buy one of each kind. Don’t judge me. I’m hungry.

Talk to me: What’s your favorite way to eat a cheese stick – do you peel or do you chomp?

I’m definitely a chomper. I’m usually too hungry to have time to peel. 😉

DISCLAIMER: While Saputo Cheese USA Inc provided me the coupons, blender bottle and stackable cups for trying their product, all opinions are my own. And my opinion is that I love cheese. 🙂 If you would like to learn more about  Frigo® Cheese Heads® products, feel free to visit their website at http://www.frigocheeseheads.com/.

Friday favorites!

Hip, Hip, Hooray!

It’s Friday!!

friday pup

Seriously, this week has been something else. I’m so looking forwarding to relaxing this weekend and enjoying a nice glass of wine. Or two. Don’t judge me.

So, today I want to share with you a few things I’ve been totally loving lately.

IN Refresh

Remember last week when I shared that I received some IN Refresh from Ignite Naturals to try?

I am totally loving this stuff!

I hit the Y yesterday for a treadmill workout and tried the Tangerine Passion Fruit flavor.

Ready to run!

So yummy!!

I feel refreshed and my thirst is quenched with this stuff. And, it doesn’t dry my mouth out like Gatorade and Powerade has a tendency to do. I’m pretty sweaty when I work out (okay, fine, I’m a mess but hey, it is what it is) and while water is fabulous, it doesn’t replace the electrolytes I lose – which, based on how much I sweat, is A LOT.

Oh, TMI? Sorry. Okay, fine, no I’m not. It’s a fact of my life. I can’t help it.

Anyway, IN Refresh helps replenish my electrolytes without making me want to drink a gallon of water after one sip. Which is how Gatorade makes me feel. When I run marathons, I’ll usually take the Gatorade AND a water starting around the mile 15 water stops. I sip a few sips of Gatorade but pound all of the water just so my mouth doesn’t feel dry. Of course, that doesn’t help me NOT want to stop and use the porta-potty but hey, at least my mouth doesn’t feel like the desert.

 Bare Minerals

my Bare Minerals starter set – just in case I couldn’t commit

Okay, so, I don’t wear a whole lot of make up. Mostly because I don’t like the way it feels on my face. My pores kinda like to breathe and covering them with a whole bunch of make up tends to prevent that. Plus, I have sensitive skin – as in, will break out and will also itch – so I can’t use a variety of products. I use Aveeno lotion because it doesn’t have any extra fragrances, etc. I’m also a HUGE proponent of sunscreen so I’m all about the SPF in a foundation or powder or whatever.

Anyway, I got a Sephora gift card for Christmas and finally went and checked it out.  The consultant was SUPER helpful and really listened to what I was telling her. Out of her suggestions, I decided to give the Bare Minerals a try. She said it was light and I liked that it wasn’t a liquid foundation – those can be difficult to blend if you’re a novice – and it had SPF! She matched my skin tone and put some on my face and I could immediately see a difference. I wasn’t “covered” but I looked “finished.” Does that even make sense? Anyway, I liked it a lot so I bought the starter kit. I really really like it!

Probably not the best lighting but hey, it was early and the sun was still sleeping. 🙂

Pecan Butter

Oh. Em. Gee.

This stuff is just amazing! I found some at the Wegman’s up near my folks’ house and bought a couple to try. It’s delicious! It’s smooth and creamy and so flippin’ good. And, of course, I can’t find any down here and we don’t have a Wegman’s so helloooo, Amazon! I also really love the individual serving sized packets – perfect for lunch boxes or purses or your pocket when you’re out hiking or walking or whatever. YUM!

Wholly Guacamole

I love guacamole. Like LOVE. It ranks right up there with nut butters in my book. And Wholly Guacamole makes some seriously awesome guacamole. Like it’s all real stuff – not like guacamole “dip” which doesn’t even have avocado in it. What the efff? When I eat guac, I want it to be real guac. Like I could have made it myself. And individual serving sized packets? Yes, please!!

I love both the original and the spicy but I tend to gravitate towards the spicy. Yes, I realize that I took a picture of the original. What of it? 😉 I put it on sandwiches, hot dogs, chilis, all sorts of stuff! I love the little cups for dipping veggies or tortilla chips into. And, if you like spicy stuff, you’ll probably enjoy their spicy guac…..makes me sweat a little. 🙂

Almond Pops

These things are so good. Lightly sweet and salty and 100% addictive! For some reason, the only place I can find them is TJ Maxx. ‘Splain that one to me – I got nothin’. But, I’m not sad about having to go to TJ Maxx to get more. Lots of fun stuff in that store! 😉

Talk to me: What are you loving lately? Any fun new finds?
