Okay, back when I left you, before I was telling you that today is NATIONAL RUNNING DAY! (Did you register for a race? Find the race deals here!), I was going to Crossfit after work on Monday. Remember? 13.2. Box jumps. Oy. Well, okay, fine – box jump. That’s all I did. One. I was so nervous, too! I really had a hard time trusting my abilities to get up on that box! I did one jump and felt a little “pull” in my upper thigh on the take-off. I landed okay – I did not re-injure anything so quit worrying. My leg just put me on notice that it did not really feel like doing box jumps. Fine. So, for the workout, I did box step-ups. I handled those just fine! The RX weight for the shoulder-to-overhead and the deadlift for ladies for 13.2 was 75# and I scaled it down to 65# because the extra weight put a little strain on my leg, too. I ended up with 177 reps! Woot! I’m pretty stoked with that. 🙂
So, as you may also remember, I met with the physical therapist yet. Diagnosis? An overuse strain of the sartorius muscle.
Prognosis? Excellent! I’m already well into the healing phase (seems like that pinky promise was a good idea after all!) and things are looking good. He’s going to help me mend by using the Graston Techniqueand teaching me some stretches to help prevent future injuries. Of course, runners are NOTORIOUS for not stretching. Bad runners!
See how easy that was? Seriously, don’t be silly (like me). STRETCH after your workout!
What are my limitations? Well, no running 😦 and no “explosive” activities, like box jumps, jump rope, etc. Otherwise, I’m only limited by what hurts. I can bike, I can elliptical, I can Crossfit! Woot!
And, speaking of Crossfit, Carla convinced me to come to the 5:00 AM workout instead of the 5:00 PM workout today. Do you even know what that means? That means I was up at 3:30 this morning to get ready! Man, I really need to move closer to the box. Really. Anyway, the programmed WOD looked interesting! But, I couldn’t do it. 😦
And it was teams so I was totally the kid who doesn’t play well with others.
So, I did yesterday’s WOD instead. Oof.
I finished in 12:22. Woot!
Okay, let’s talk oatmeal. I know I’ve shared some oatmeal recipes before but I came across this recipe on the “Shape magazine” website and seriously, it begged to be made. I mean, really. Peanut Butter Cookie Oatmeal? Oh, yes please! And you know what, it TOTALLY tastes like a peanut butter cookie! Om nom nom!
Peanut Butter Cookie Oatmeal
serves 1
1/3 cup old-fashioned oats
2/3 cup water (or milk)
1 pinch salt
1 tablespoon peanut butter
Brown sugar
1/2 banana, sliced
Milk
Combine oats, water, and salt in a microwave-safe dish and microwave on full power for 2 minutes. Stir in peanut butter. Transfer to a serving bowl and sprinkle with brown sugar to taste. Top with banana slices and a splash of milk.
Divine!
