Can this old dog learn a new trick?

Hi there!

Only 7 days until FitBloggin!!!!!

I’m so excited, I can’t stand it!!

I was just reviewing the schedule again and boy, am I glad I did! They’ve added some new sessions and moved some others around. I’ve been busy this morning making adjustments to my schedule.

Yes, I probably should have been working. Yes, I’m that nerd who makes a schedule so I can print it out and take it with me.

Hey, I like to be prepared! Don’t judge me.

So, I learned something interesting at CrossFit yesterday.

We did “Nicole”

and Coach was doing the WOD with us (he usually takesΒ the 4pm class and then coachesΒ the 5pm class).

Well, because he’s way better at pull-ups than I am, I spent more time running than he did.

He actually ended up behind me a couple of times and was able to watch my stride.

Apparently, I have a real good mid-foot strike (which is good because I always thought I was a heel striker!) but my stride is too long.

I’m inefficient.

I dislike inefficiency.

Basically, I’m leaving my trail leg on the ground too long and wasting energy.

Seriously, who wants to waste energy when you’re headed out the door for a 20-miler? Or better yet, a 50k?!

Um, not me!

So, he’s going to send me some links to some videos to watch and set me up with some drills to do.

I need to shorten my stride and make it more of a hamstring effort rather than a quad-based effort.

Essentially, I’m going to be learning the “pose running” technique.

Thankfully, it’s not like I’m starting from scratch but it’s definitely going to be interesting.

The way he brought it up was kind of funny. He asked me, “where did you learn to run?”

My response? “Um….outside…..” #smartass

Talk to me: Have you ever worked with a running and/or endurance coach? Have you ever tried to change your running style?
